About the instructor- Heather Lomax

Welcome to an exhilarating equestrian journey! Your instructor will be Heather Lomax, a highly experienced equine professional with over 25 years of expertise. She has been riding horses since she was a toddler and started training them right after high school while pursuing animal and equine science in college.

Heather has specialized in gaited horses and training for many years, but her focus expanded to horse-rider relationships and bridleless riding clinics. In 2020, she discovered horseback archery, and it was a game-changer. This sport is all about building a strong connection and relationship with your horse, and Heather was instantly hooked.

Since her first mounted archery clinic, Heather has become a full-time riding instructor, mounted archery coach, and competitor. She has gained immense experience and knowledge of the sport, which she loves to share with her students. Heather, along with her husband Ken, owns Hidden Creek Ranch (HCR) in Maricopa, CA. HCR is home to Poseidon's Horse Archers and boasts a 110m IHAA straight track, various hunt courses, and a 1300m Hunt course. Plus, it's located in the stunning Los Padres National Forest, offering the perfect setting for horseback archery.

Heather's passion for horseback archery has taken her all over the world, where she has competed with and trained with some of the very best. She has multiple podium placements throughout the US, and in 2023, she competed in France. She represented the US as an individual rider at the World Championships for Horseback Archery Eventing in Mongolia and finished second among the US riders, even setting a US course record (2nd place) on the Raid 235.

For Heather, horseback archery is all about the relationship with the horse. Building trust, connection, and training with your equine partner is awe-inspiring and truly awesome. It's an addictive sport that requires you to drop the reins, pick up a weapon, and trust your horse to maintain gait and direction.
